Let’s be real — Russell Dickerson‘s single “Yours” is a complete smash. The song has been played at weddings around the world ever since its release and has not only racked up over 126M Spotify streams, but the full-length record also landed a spot in the Top 5 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart.
“Yours” was one of the songs honored at the 2018 SESAC Nashville Music Awards in Music City on November 11, alongside others such as Jordan Davis‘ “Singles You Up” and Lady Antebellum‘s “Heart Break.”
This comes to no surprise for Dickerson and his co-writer Casey Brown, as they knew it was special from the moment they sat down in the writer’s room.
“I say yes,” co-writer Casey Brown tells CS Country. “It felt special in the room when we wrote it. It was obvious that it wasn’t just the same song you normally write. I think for it to do what it did, a lot of amazing factors needed to align.”
“We wrote this song four years ago,” Dickerson adds. “So mental calendar — we wrote this song on January 24th, 2014 and it went No. 1 January 22, 2018; just two days off from being exactly 4 years.”
Russell has a busy 2019 ahead, as he will be embarking on an 11-city U.S. co-headlining tour with Carly Pearce. Kicking off on January 24, 2019 from Cleveland, OH, country music’s favorite new faces music share more than a marquee. Finding themselves in the same songwriting circles earlier in their careers, they have supported each other along the way so their parallel successes make their tour all the more exciting. Tickets are on sale for The Way Back Tour here.
“Carly and I go way, way back and we have cheered each other on for years,” Carly Pearce said in a statement. Russell also added, “Breaking onto the scene together has been such a fun ride, so we had to book a tour together to celebrate!”
