Earlier this year, Mare of Easttown captured audiences’ attention with its tale of a weathered cop investigating the gruesome murder rocking her American small town. However, another new drama series happens to have a very similar premise: Showtime‘s American Rust. Jeff Daniels stars as Del Harris, the chief of police of a Rust Belt town in Pennsylvania. When the woman he loves’ (Maura Tierney) son is accused of murder, he quickly becomes compromised in his search for the truth.
Decider’s Joel Keller gave the series a “stream it” recommendation, writing that “Jeff Daniels’ deeply emotional performance, plus Maura Tierney’s equally fine turn are more than enough to make American Rust compelling.”
Will there be a second season of American Rust on Showtime? When can you expect new episodes of American Rust? Here’s everything to know.
We don’t know yet! At the time of publication, Showtime hasn’t officially canceled or renewed American Rust. But the show’s first season adapts the entirety of the novel it’s based on, and it currently suffers from poor ratings and reviews. A second season isn’t out of the question, but there’s a good chance that Season 1 could wrap up Sheriff Harris’ story for good.
Yep! American Rust is available to stream on Showtime Anytime, which is free with a Showtime subscription or through participating TV providers.
Let’s assume American Rust has been renewed for a second season. In that case, when can we expect the new season?
Season 1 filmed from March to August 2021, and aired on Showtime from September to November. If a hypothetical Season 2 follows the same schedule, expect the next installment of American Rust to involve in late 2022 or early 2023.
